my own nigella cooking show

before i update on my life in loughborough and on my travels, i HAVE to tell you about my crazy-about-cheesecake days last week and show you the pretty pictures. i’m pretty sure you’ll ooh and ahh as much as i did while making/eating/taking photos of it (:

some singaporeans whom i met at the chinese fellowship in loughborough invited me and a friend to their house on the last day of chinese new year for a meal and we decided to contribute by making cheesecake. i was a little worried that they wouldn’t have the ingredients i use back home when i make the cheesecake but most of the stuff was at tesco’s so all was well. we even bought blueberries for garnishing – 2 boxes for 3 pounds, which i think by singapore standards is reasonable, if not cheap.

4 of us then set off to start making the cheesecakes – one for the dinner at our friends’ house and one for us NUS exchange students. we got it done quite quickly - much faster than back home where i usually make it alone.

as dinner was finishing in butler that night, i went to the stove and experimented with the blueberries, trying to heat and mush them in a pot over the stove with a little bit of water and sugar/honey to make blueberry sauce. it worked! i was really pleased with it.

the-four-chefs.jpg  – the four “dessert chefs” all in smiles with the yummy cheesecake. look at the oozy blueberry sauce! yummy (:

the next day, we brought the second cheesecake to the dinner at the other singaporeans’ house, not far from butler. this one was more special as it had two layers – the usual digestive layer and a chocolate brownie cookie layer. (i couldn’t find oreos at tesco’s so we made do with another different coloured biscuit.) had more difficulty cutting this one as it was more frozen than the first one but nonetheless, dessert was served. presenting: refridgerated two-layered cheesecake with homemade blueberry sauce served with ice cream on the side! (thanks jo for the pictures!)

“heavenly” is probably something nigella would say. wouldn’t you agree? (:

Mmm-mmm. At 10am at the office, it definitely looks heavenly to me! 10am is the worst time of the day to be hungry because it’s almost exactly 2 hours since I last ate and when I’ll next eat…so its like the top of the bell-curve of hunger/time. I’m so praying for a class at work that can’t finish their morning tea-break spread…

Haha See Hwei, you really shouldn’t go into such detail about how you baked…makes me imagining eating it at each stage you describe. That’s the main reason why I’m such a failed chef, despite my many shy attempts at Yen-can-cooking (heheheh). My ingredients never seem to survive to meet each other in the final dish, only in my digestive tract.

Once I ate raw dough because I could imagine the final product, but couldn’t wait for it. The taste in my mouth didn’t quite match the image in my mind.

Oh well, guess it’s destiny for me not to cook for people but have people cook for me instead…now that you and your friend are Nigella clones, I’m expecting great things from you!! hinthint.
    *rubs hands in glee*

Heheh, I feel quite guilty right now…A girl came into my cubicle (invasion of my personal space!!) and asked me for directions ‘cos she was lost…and I gave her directions to getting even more lost. Normally I don’t feel that guilty about things like this especially when I’m hungry and sleepy, but she *was* kinda sweet-looking and demure…and she gave me bambi eyes!

@.@ <- ASCII reproduction of aforementioned “Bambi Eyes”

The last girl who gave me bambi eyes had me all hung up for years, so I sent this lost girl packing off in a direction that wouldn’t have her shooting me her doe-eyed-look-of-innocence anytime soon. Just like I did the last one. I’m very bad with handling bambi eyes, but still, now she’s going to be late for class…truly I am a terrible man.

    Terribly hungry at any rate.

Keep posting, keep baking! It’s so great to see you’ve found many things to entertain and improve yourself with, may the Lord keep your days bountiful and your soul beautiful. Can’t wait for you to come back! Kbox calls!

Hmm, just got fed. 10 fishballs and 7 egg and tuna sandwiches. I’m a happy and content boy again.

    Prayers really do get answered.

Next thing to for is…my dream car, the BMW X5 SUV. Hahaha, I kid. I pray for your happiness and health always.

    Cheers!
